DISCLOSING HIDDEN HISTORY: LUSTRATION IN THE WESTERN BALKANS

This project rallied non-governmental organisations from six states of the Western Balkans, namely: Greece, Macedonia, Albania, Serbia and Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. CEMIR was the partner from Serbia and Montenegro. The objective of this project was to promote national legislation in the field of lustration, to promote the lustration procedure and improve legal and political awareness and public discussions and broaden the circle of citizens who participate in these discussions on the past, but also present and future of the Western Balkans.

During 2005 two gatherings were held, one in May in Thessalonica and one in June in Belgrade, which was at the same time the final activity on this project. As part of this project a book entitled Disclosing Hidden History: Lustration in the Western Balkans, by Magarditsch Hatschikjan, Dušan Reljić and Nenad Šebek was published in cooperation with the Center for Democracy and Reconciliation in South-East Europe.
